The Resort: No one will oblige you to do much of anything on North Island. The 519-acre private-island resort—reached via a 20-minute helicopter ride from Seychelles International Airport—immerses guests in a blissfully isolated atmosphere where the urge to remain sequestered in a beachside villa is hardly unusual. Still, the Indian Ocean’s crystalline waters tend to lure even the most sedentary guests, and North Island’s attentive yet unobtrusive staff is happy to accommodate. After a day of scuba diving, snorkeling, hiking, or sea kayaking, guests can relax with a holistic treatment at the resort’s spa, followed by sundowners at the Sunset Bar and dinner at an elegantly dressed driftwood table on a powdery white-sand beach.
The Villa: Tucked within a forest of takamaka trees at the northernmost tip of the resort, Villa North Island is an 8,100-square-foot fantasy of winding wooden walkways and sliding glass walls. Ocean vistas predominate from the 5,400-square-foot sundeck and every other inch of living space, which includes an open-air bathroom, a master suite, two lounges, a media room, and a butler’s kitchen. For an up-close Indian Ocean view, head down the walkway to Villa North Island’s private stretch of beach.
The Highlight: Dinner served by your butler on Villa North Island’s hidden deck (go past the outdoor shower and take a left at the granite boulder), complete with a bonfire and views of the sinking sun.
The Price: About $4,250 per person per night, all-inclusive, for two guests. +248.293.100, www.north-island.com
