BEST of the BEST 2014 | Style |Men’s Watches | Dress Watch: Breguet Classique Tourbillon Extra-Thin Automatic 5377

In its never-ending effort to preserve the spirit and design sensibility of its founder while pushing its watchmaking capabilities to the technological forefront, Breguet has conceived a remarkable timepiece, the new Classique Tourbillon Extra-Thin Automatic 5377 ($149,500 for the rose gold version). This watch’s signature complication has been reworked using a carriage made of titanium and a silicon spring and escapement, and the improved performance resulting from these alterations is complemented by a contemporary appearance that does not abandon the brand’s time-honored dial motifs. A new peripheral rotor offers an unimpeded view of the subtly engraved movement plates and reduces the height of the movement to just 3 mm. The case measures an elegant 42 mm by 7 mm—dimensions that make this not a radically thin timepiece but rather one that respects Breguet’s 239-year legacy of keenly considered proportions.
