FrontRunners: Ahead of the Curve

  • Laurie Kahle

Parmigiani Fleurier has marked a watchmaking milestone with Forma, the first timepiece from the exclusive boutique brand that is powered with an in-house movement, the new automatic Calibre 331. “Given that we completely manufacture the movement as well as the case, there is great harmony between the container and what it contains,” says master watchmaker Michel Parmigiani.

Forma’s contemporary and curvaceous design is a manifestation of Parmigiani’s admiration of nature’s perfect proportions. “I wanted to create a form-driven watch, one that is all curves, that symbolizes the elements of nature that are at the heart of what inspires me,” he says.

The Forma, which is priced from $13,000 to $16,000, comes in 18-karat yellow, rose, or white gold. A smaller version fitted with a Frédéric Piguet movement is also available for women. Both styles are fitted with a comfortable leather strap designed exclusively for the collection, and a gold bracelet style will be available later this year.
