MB&F Revolutionizes the Perpetual Calendar

While the MB&F Legacy Machine Perpetual (mbandf.com) is perhaps the most traditional-looking timepiece to come out of the avant-garde Swiss watchmaking consortium Maximilian Büsser & Friends (MB&F), it is actually one of the group’s most technically revolutionary designs to date. Created by MB&F and the Irish watchmaker Stephen McDonnell, the perpetual calendar uses a compact mechanical processor that changes the date nearly instantaneously and improves reliability and ease of setting. The space saved by the movement’s unique architecture, which eliminates the sizable grand levier, allows the dial displays and balance to be elevated above the mechanism. Only 25 watches in red gold ($145,000) and 25 in platinum ($176,000) will be made.
