The Swiss watch manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre has been at the forefront of miniature-movement design since 1907, when it created what was then the world’s thinnest pocket-watch movement, measuring just 1.38 mm thick. Continuing with this tradition, the company recently introduced new variations to three watches from the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin collection.

The newest Master Ultra Thin Tourbillon ($71,500) trades the previous watch’s rose-gold case for a white-gold one. The 11.3 mm–thick watch’s namesake complication is positioned at 6 o’clock, allowing observation of its high-frequency balance spring, which beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour. The tourbillon cage is made from lightweight, grade 5 titanium, reducing the amount of the barrel’s energy required to keep it rotating. Black, nickel-plated dauphine hands and hour indices contrast with the finely grained white dial, enhancing the watch’s legibility.

The Master Ultra Thin Moon ($18,900), now available with a black dial with a sunburst finish, is housed within a steel case that is just 9.9 mm thick. The moon-phase indicator consists of a rotating blue disk marked with two golden dots representing the moon; and, thanks to the darker dial color, the complication immediately draws the eye. Its automatic movement, which is just 4.9 mm thick, can be viewed through the crystal on the back of the case.

Previously only available in rose gold, the steel-cased Master Ultra Thin Date ($8,100) is the slimmest of the three new watches, with a thickness of only 7.45 mm. The watch is driven by the company’s automatic Calibre 899, which measures an amazing 3.3 mm thick and is visible through the rear crystal. Elegantly complementing the new steel case, the discreet silver-colored dial displays the date through a small rectangular aperture at 6 o’clock. (jaeger-lecoultre.com)
