Chivas Regal Enlists Pininfarina to Showcase Its Finest Blends
Pininfarina, the Italian automotive design firm, has partnered with Chivas Regal to pay tribute to Chivas Regal 18 Year Old scotch. Pininfarina created two custom carrying cases with wood-and-veneer lining to mimic the oak barrels used for aging whiskey. The smaller of the two, which is limited to 1,500 pieces at $140 apiece, houses a bottle of Chivas Regal 18, and the larger case, made in 120 editions at $495 apiece, opens to display a bottle and two custom rocks glasses.
Pininfarina’s showpiece is an oak sculpture of nearly 7½ feet that can be customized to function as a shelving unit for storing spirits. Built by hand in Pininfarina’s workshop in Cambiano, Italy, the oak fixture is modeled after the mascherone (which literally means “big mask”)—the wooden mold that the company has historically used to build automobile frames. Just 10 pieces have will be made to order; they are available for $100,000.
The unique custom designs underscore the rarity of Chivas Regal 18 Year Old—which comprises 20 rare Scottish single malts that have been aged for up to 40 years—features 85 nuanced flavors, including dried apricot and velvety notes of dark chocolate and spice on the palate.
