FrontRunners: Select Smoke

<< Back to Robb Report, July 2008

Avo Uvezian’s birthday has become a cause for celebration among cigar smokers. Uvezian, who founded Avo Cigars, has marked each of his birthdays since 2001 by creating a limited-edition cigar. The Avo L.E. 08 Tesoro (the word tesoro is Spanish for "treasure") is sheathed in a wrapper that is grown under the cloudy skies of Ecuador. Uvezian believes this leathery leaf delivers a happy medium: It is more flavorful than shade-grown tobacco but milder than the intensely flavored wrappers that are cultivated in the concentrated sunlight of Central America. A blend of three Dominican filler tobaccos—Olor, Piloto, and San Vicente—adds flavors of cinnamon and spiced rum. ($240 for a box of 20) www?.avo.com
