At Sociètè du Vin, a new wine-collectors’ clubhouse in Bridgehampton, New York, members get private cellars and access to exclusive tasting events. Designed by Hollywood set designer Elvis Restaino, the new 10,000-square-foot space is a home away from home for significant wine collections. The idea, founder Leslie Alexander says, is to create a place where a community of wine lovers can interact and share the bottles they love most.

Alexander, the owner of the Houston Rockets and a summertime Southampton resident, created the club to address a problem he encountered with his own precious wine collection. He keeps most of his 6,000 bottles at his main residence in Florida, so it was difficult to enjoy them on nice summer nights in the Hamptons. He needed a good way to keep some wines near his summer home, and he knew he wasn’t alone.

This conundrum drove him to pour $5 million into an old potato barn in Bridgehampton last year to create Société du Vin. The club will be kept intimate, limited to 76 memberships for now, the better to enjoy the chandeliered lounge and patio spaces in peace. Members can choose from two levels of storage: a simple locker-style space on the main floor, or one of nine private cellars in the basement, each of which has reclaimed-wood shelving, a tasting table, and its own chandelier.

In addition to getting storage space and a place to relax, members will get access to exclusive wine-focused events. Alexander’s team is planning a series of tasting dinners with winemakers from the likes of Domaine de la Romanée Conti and Château Palmer. Members will be invited to bring guests to the events, but the number of seats is limited.

Enrollment is open now. There’s a $50,000 initiation fee, and annual dues depend on the storage unit chosen.
