For One Night Only, Taste Wines with Helmut Dönnhoff in Carmel, Calif.

Christina Garofalo

On July 18, one of the top Riesling producers in the world, Helmut Dönnhoff, will host an exclusive wine tasting at L’Auberge Carmel in California. A limited number of guests will have the chance to taste the 2003 Niederhäuser Hermannshöhle Spätlese, 2012 Oberhäuser Leistenberg Kabinett, and 2003 Oberhäuser Brücke Auslese, to name a few. Following the tastings, chef Justin Cogley of the hotel’s Aubergine restaurant will prepare a four-course lunch ($150 per person) comprising spiced carrots, John Dory dressed in a lemongrass emulsion, Maine lobster, and homemade sorbet, each paired with a Dönnhoff wine.

For those who haven’t got their fill, Cogley will also serve a six-course pairing dinner later that evening ($295 per person) that will include starters of braised peaches with yellow corn and freshly caught diver scallops, with main dishes of turbot cooked on the bone and Guinea fowl with zucchini in smoked butter. Guests may purchase tickets to both the lunch and dinner ($395 per person) or an all-inclusive package for the event ($1,495 for two), which includes one night’s accommodations at L’Auberge Carmel, the wine tasting with Dönnhoff, the four-course lunch, and the six-course pairing dinner.
