Sotheby’s to Auction a Rare Chance to Taste Krug Vintage 1915 Champagne

On September 25, Sotheby’s New York will be auctioning off an unprecedented two-day Krug Champagne tasting experience in Reims, France. The auctioned event will be hosted by Olivier Krug, a sixth-generation member of the founding Krug family, and will feature a private tasting of one of only four bottles of Krug 1915 Champagne Private Cuvée Brut in existence.

The winning bidder and three of his or her guests will also experience a personal tour of the gastronomic and historical highlights of Reims and the house of Krug; a tour of the vineyards; a visit to the nearby village of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and a tasting of the five legendary vintage Champagnes from Clos du Mesnil; and a Krug Champagne dinner personally prepared by celebrated chef Arnaud Lallement at his Michelin three-star restaurant L’Assiette Champenoise.

But the highlight of this remarkable event will be a private tour of the Krug cellars, culminating with Krug’s historic Caveau Collection. There, one of the four remaining bottles of Krug 1915 will be opened as part of a vertical tasting with the winning bidder and guests, Olivier Krug, two members of the Krug official tasting committee, and Sotheby’s Master of Wine Serena Sutcliffe—all of whom will share their impressions of the rare vintage. The lucky auction winner will then be presented with the empty bottle of Krug 1915, which will feature a replica of the original label, in a tailor-made oak box.
