Located in the Oak Knoll district of Napa Valley, Trefethen has the distinction of never once having purchased a grape grown outside its family-owned estate—an impressive achievement, given that the label markets more than a dozen wines. These same vineyards have produced wine since 1886, and the property’s 19th-century wooden, gravity-flow winery—the only one of its kind currently operating in Napa Valley—is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A classic Bordeaux blend, this beautifully balanced wine exudes layer upon layer of black fruits. ($75)
