Capella Ixtapa

Everything is where it should be at Capella Ixtapa (877.247.6688, www.capellahotels.com), which opened in December in this resort town on Mexico’s central Pacific coast. Inside each of the 59 guest rooms, a bedside remote controls everything from the television to the lights; flip-flops, a straw hat, and a bottle of sunscreen outfit you for a stroll to the beach or pool; and multiple hooks and a fan hidden behind a wooden screen in the bathroom assist in drying towels and bathing suits on your return. Outside the rooms’ sliding glass doors, stucco walls and thatch canopies shield plunge pool–equipped terraces from neighboring suites without blocking the Pacific Ocean views. Paths, stairways, and even two funiculars help you navigate the resort’s cliff-side plot, at the base of which is a scenic yet rocky private cove that is unsuitable for swimming. But if the less-than-idyllic beach is an exception to the resort’s perfection of placement, Capella Ixtapa offers a solution: a large wooden deck set just above the surf, where you can recline on a chaise longue and order drinks from the nearby bar.
