21 Ultimate Gifts: The High Life

It is not the top of the world, but the Residences at Mandarin Oriental’s penthouse, which comprises the entire 78th floor of New York’s Time Warner Center, will feel like it—especially when living here includes the bonuses that Mandarin Oriental has added for a Robb Report reader.

Thomas Keller, the chef of French Laundry fame who recently opened Per Se in the Time Warner Center, will cater a housewarming party for 40 people. Charlie Trotter, who plans to open an establishment in the Time Warner Center in the spring of 2005, will conduct a cooking lesson for six in the penthouse’s kitchen, guiding his charges as they prepare a seven- to 10-course dinner for 10. Trotter also will pair each course with an appropriate wine. Chef Gray Kunz of Café Gray will prepare a champagne brunch for 15, and his restaurant’s sommelier will arrange the installation of a 120-bottle wine storage refrigerator and will fill it with vintages that match the owners’ tastes. Masa Takayama will prepare a sake dinner for 26 in his Time Warner Center restaurant, and Nori Sugie, chef de cuisine of Asiate, will offer a penthouse dinner party.

The new residents can host a party for as many as 300 guests at the Stone Rose Lounge in the Time Warner Center, with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres from Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s V Steakhouse. They will receive preferential seating at the lounge for as long as they live in the penthouse.

Among the other items being offered exclusively through Robb Report is a 10-year membership in the Jazz at Lincoln Center Chairman’s Circle, which allows VIP access to house seats and the Patron’s Lounge, invitations to special events, and two excellent seats at every Jazz at Lincoln Center concert for one year. The Spa at Mandarin Oriental will contribute a year’s worth of monthly, two-hour-long spa treatments for two. Mandarin Oriental is also offering the new residents parking spaces for two sedans for a year.
