Across New York, some of our favorite steakhouses have shut down temporarily—as have many restaurants—because of the Covid-19 pandemic. However, several of the city’s most exceptional bastions of beef are embracing the new “normal” with outdoor dining setups, as well as takeout and delivery options. In fact, a few choice establishments are offering their steaks and sides to-go for the first-time ever.
Even as indoor dining reopens in New York City, some people may want to hold off on indulging in a true steakhouse experience just yet. So we’re showcasing eight restaurants that are serving up the next best thing: everything needed for an impressive meat-filled feast at home. The next time you’re craving a perfectly cooked ribeye or richly marbled NY Strip, you can count on these steak-centric standouts to deliver the goods.

St. Anselm

It’s been called the ‘anti-steakhouse steakhouse’ because of its casual and unassuming ambiance, which has made it one of the most beloved places to get your steak fix in New York. Luckily for local Brooklynites, the restaurant is offering its grass-fed beef and signature sides—including spinach gratin and pan-fried mashed potatoes—for takeout and delivery. No waiting for a table necessary.

A user-friendly delivery landing page (which also includes Quality Branded sister restaurants) links to a menu of savory appetizers and sides, and even batched cocktails to enjoy alongside Quality Meats’ high-end cuts like filet mignon, Double R Ranch strip steak, and prime dry-aged porterhouse for two. Pro tip: add the outstanding grilled Nueske’s bacon with miso peanut butter and jalapeño jelly to your order.

The Bea (as she calls it) is offering local delivery and pickup of menu standbys like the superb 60-day dry-aged cote de boeuf and 45-day dry-aged burger, along with bistro-style fare such as roasted squab and rabbit with leeks. “Since summer, we have started cooking the foods that I would be eating if I had been in France, which is where I normally am during that time of year,” shares Mar. Pro tip: don’t sleep on the bone marrow-bourbon crème brûlée dessert.

Peter Luger

Back in May, we broke the news that the legendary old-school restaurant finally got into the modern day delivery and takeout game after being dine-in only for more than 130 years. A few months later, the South Williamsburg icon is still making all the menu classics—from extra thick-cut Luger bacon to succulent dry-aged steaks to the illustrious half-pound burger—available throughout Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan via phone (718-387-7400) and Caviar.

Keens

The historic midtown haunt has always offered takeout on a modest scale, but ramped up efforts and added delivery over the summer (initial drops were made by Keens’ own small team of employees). The menu features Keens classics such as the renowned mutton chop, prime dry-aged T-Bone steak, and best-selling double lamb chops. In addition to local Manhattan deliveries, the restaurant’s meats and merchandise can now be shipped nationwide through Goldbelly.

Recreate the luxurious Strip House experience at home with the outrageous 20-ounce bone-in New York Strip and decadent sides such as crispy goose fat potatoes and black truffle creamed spinach. Pro tip: select wines are 25% off when you order pickup.

Bowery Meat Company
Image Credit: Photo: courtesy Bowery Meat Company As the name suggests, this trendy East Village chophouse from John McDonald and chef-partner Josh Capon is all about the meat. While navigating this particularly difficult time for restaurants, Bowery Meat Company has been doing takeout and delivery, which “has been going very well,” shared Capon. The meat-centric menu includes a robust selection of trademark cuts—from bone-in filet mignon to a 34-ounce ribeye for two that’s been dry-aged for 100 days—and knockout sides such as ‘cacio e pepe’-style crispy fingerling potatoes. Also on offer: nine different butcher shop steaks, which are packaged raw and ready to cook or hit the grill at home.

Old Homestead
Image Credit: Photo: courtesy Old Homestead Since opening its doors in 1868, Old Homestead has been satiating hungry carnivores in the city’s Meatpacking District. The iconic meatery is lauded for its oversized slabs of the finest beef such as the 40-day-aged, bone-in ribeye steak and melt-in-your-mouth porterhouse for two. To keep up with the demands of their loyal customers, owners Greg and Marc Sherry recently rolled out curbside pickup and delivery for the first time, as well as a ‘butcher block’ of mammoth signature cuts with cooking instructions for at-home preparation—a huge departure from the restaurant’s past policy which prohibited raw beef from ever leaving the premises.
