Karl Lagerfeld Designs Joël Robuchon’s New Hôtel Métropole Eatery

The legendary fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld collaborated with the celebrated chef Joël Robuchon on a new dining experience at the Hôtel Métropole Monte-Carlo that was unveiled in late June. In his imaginative style, Lagerfeld redesigned the hotel’s swanky poolside lounge and created a 65-foot mural inspired by Homer’s epic poems the Iliad and the Odyssey, which is the backdrop for Robuchon’s new restaurant, Odyssey. This is the chef’s fourth restaurant at the hotel.

For the menu, Robuchon drew from Greek, Italian, Spanish, and Lebanese influences to create a multidimensional Mediterranean dining experience. Options include shared plates, such as beef carpaccio rolled with ricotta cheese and fried artichokes or skewers of grilled squid and slow-roasted tomato, along with larger plates such as a smoked-salmon-and-cucumber club sandwich or veal with lemon confit, spinach, and parmesan cheese. Through the summer, the dining and lounge experience opens to the public at nightfall and serves cocktails and canapés and has live music and DJs; the restaurant will remain open to hotel guests for lunch year-round.  (+ 377., www.metropole.com)
