Mei Lin’s Travel Diary: The Best Places to Eat in Hong Kong
Let the Top Chef winner guide you on a culinary tour of this Chinese metropolis.

When Top Chef Season 12 winner Mei Lin isn’t planning pop-up dinners with fellow chef friends, hanging out with Oprah, or testing recipes for her forthcoming restaurant, she’s globe-trotting in pursuit of her next great meal. Every month, she reports back on the highlights of her travels her favorite, can’t-miss foods. This month she shares her favorite restaurants in Hong Kong.
I was born in Guangdong, China, and immigrated to the States when I was only 3 months old. One of my first trips to Asia as an adult was to Hong Kong in 2012, and I’ve come back a couple of times since. Traveling through the city, I immediately felt at home. My Cantonese is so-so, but I can definitely understand more than I can speak. Of course, me being a chef, I wanted to visit Michelin-rated restaurants as well as the street stalls that are all over Hong Kong. When I head to the city, there are certain dishes I always crave, from wonton noodle soup to roast goose. In my travels there, these are the restaurants I wouldn’t hesitate going back to or sending my friends to if they were on a trip to Hong Kong.
