Best Of The Best 2006: Good-Time Charlie

Charles-Camille Heidsieck was one of the first Champagne entrepreneurs to recognize the importance of what today would be called “working the market.” When he arrived in New York in 1852 to promote his wines, he charmed the American public with his French flair and earned the moniker Champagne Charlie. Within five years, his company was shipping 300,000 bottles a year to the United States. The special reserve Heidsieck bottling now known as Champagne Charlie is a tribute to the founder’s unique talents. Made from 60 percent Pinot Noir and 40 percent Chardonnay, Charles Heidsieck 1985 Champagne Charlie is lush yet bright, with yeasty intensity and lots of character.
