FrontRunners: On the Curve

Centuries-old glassmakers Riedel and Baccarat continue to reshape our notion of glassware. In September, the Champagne house Krug, through a partnership with Riedel, will begin offering a curved Champagne glass with a bottle of its Grande Cuvée for $200. The unusual form of the Krug Le Joseph glass (www.krug.com) is intended to enhance the Champagne’s aroma and taste by fostering more bubbles. The Château Baccarat Collection (www.baccarat.com), which was introduced earlier this year, features glassware that is shaped to optimally aerate its contents. The $495 decanter, $70 tumblers, $85 Champagne flutes, and $85 red- and white-stemmed glasses also have narrow rims designed to minimize the scent of alcohol and leave a purer nose from the wine.
