Scotland reaches its full glory in the long days and favorable weather of August, and Bonhams will make hay while the sun shines with its annual Scottish Sale. The series of auctions, held in Edinburgh from mid to late August, will of course include one sale devoted entirely to whisky.
Slated for the August 16 whisky auction is a Black Bowmore 1964, bottled for the 1993 first-edition release as number 524 of 2,000 and housed in a handsome wooden presentation case. Bonhams sold number 840 from the first edition in November 2009 for £2,100 ($3,300) against a £1,500–£1,700 ($2,400–$2,700) estimate; this bottle is expected to fetch £2,000–£2,500 ($3,200–$4,000).
Rarer still is the Dalmore Candela 50 year old, which includes spirits dating to 1868, 1878, 1909, 1922, 1939, and 1951. Magnificently presented in a crystal decanter with sterling silver collar and stopper, the Dalmore, number 54 of 77, is estimated at £6,000–£8,000 ($9,600–$12,800). (www.bonhams.com)
