Le Trou du Diable Tractor Saison Canadian farmhouse ale
The summer love affair with farmhouse ales continues with this Canadian saison—French for season—the label of which depicts a farmer on a tractor and compels one to imbibe this beer in a dry summer heat. The Le Trou Du Diable microbrewery in Quebec has a diverse portfolio of beers that are very hard to come by in the United States. The name translates to the Devil’s Hole, the name of the 42-acre state park (near Niagara Falls) located about 500 miles southwest of the brewery.
Le Trou du Diable Tractor Saison ($9 per 22 oz. bottle) is a refreshing golden-orange farmhouse ale that offers scents of biscuity malt, orange zest, passion fruit, and light phenols. Its heavy carbonation lends the beer a bright and zesty mouthfeel that serves as a welcome foil to its citrus flavors and uncanny smoothness and drinkability despite some spicy notes and a 6 percent ABV. This beer will make any long, hot day on the tractor infinitely more enjoyable.
