Using Cabernet Sauvignon as their canvas, the winemaking artists at Round Pond Estate have created the Gravel Series, three single-varietal oenological masterworks made from fruit sourced from the winery’s 362 planted acres.
Harvested from the Oakville Bench, the grapes used in the 2013 Secret Garden benefited from a temperate growing season that allowed the fruit’s flavor to be fully realized without heightened sugar levels. The result is a complex vintage exhibiting cassis and blueberries on the palate with a finish hinting at clove and sage.
From Round Pond’s Rutherford vineyard, the 2013 Scholar’s Gate is a study in aromatics that follows with an earthy elegance, with ripe tannins and a touch of toasted oak on the finish.
Promising to please, the 2013 vintage of the Vow whispers of black cherry and spice before delivering raspberry, plum, and a measure of minerality, followed by acidity in the structured finish.
All wines in the Gravel Series are priced at $225. (roundpond.com)
