Frank Family Vineyards 2012 Carneros Rouge ($55)
Frank Family Vineyards makes wine at the historic Hanns Kornell property in Napa Valley—and it still gets customers looking for Kornell’s sparkling red. Fortunately, winemaker Todd Graff—whose background includes Schramsberg Vineyards in Calistoga—has honored (and considerably elevated) the old Kornell standby. His 2012 Carneros Rouge ($55) is actually a vivid violet, made with Carneros Pinot Noir and a touch of Chardonnay. It is dry as a bone—fruity but not sweet, and redolent of strawberries and tart cherries. Graff pours it at celebratory dinners, though it would also be a natural with a good cheese plate or grilled poultry. (frankfamilyvineyards.com)
