Fancy a cake in beer form? Chicago’s Moody Tongue Brewing Company had dessert in mind with this release. Inspired by a 12-layer German chocolate cake served in the tasting room, this imperial stout ($30/four-pack) has a malty backbone with notes of coconut, graham cracker, and caramel. The beer spent 12 months in Four Roses bourbon barrels, which adds a little bit of oak and a dose of sweetness. At 32 proof, perhaps consider making this full-bodied beer last more than a few downs.
