Toraño’s Family Blends

Since selling their Nicaraguan and Honduran factories to Scandinavian Tobacco a few years ago, Carlos and Charlie Toraño, the father-and-son team of the Toraño Family Cigar Co., have enjoyed a newfound freedom to make exclusive brands and blends. One of their initial offerings is the Master series ($5.50–$6.95), an annual release of a specific blend created by various acclaimed cigar rollers. The first cigar of the Master series has been created in Estelí, Nicaragua, by master roller Felipe Sosa, who has worked with the Toraño family for over a decade. Comprised of a Cuban seed Ecuadoran wrapper that was specially developed for the Toraños by the highly respected Oliva family, and teamed with Nicaraguan binder and filler, the taste is big and bold, and structured for the seasoned cigar smoker. Four sizes are offered: a 5 x 50 robusto, a 6¼ 1 x 52 torpedo, a 7 x 50 Churchill, and a proprietary 6 x 54, the latter of which brings out the fullest measure of the Master’s potential. (
