Jaffurs Wine Cellars
Craig Jaffurs defected from the aerospace industry in the early 1990s to pursue his dream of making wine. Thanks to the success of his first efforts in the 1994 vintage, he was able to complete the construction of his urban winery in the city of Santa Barbara in 2001. The current owners, Dan and Janelle Greene, continue to operate Jaffurs Wine Cellars on the négociant model embraced in Burgundy and elsewhere in France: They contract with the very best vineyards throughout the region to supply them with grapes, which they process in their own facility, producing stunning Rhône-style wines. A favorite is the Roussanne from Stolpman Vineyard, an alluring nectar of tropical notes ranging from banana and mango to vanilla bean.
