FrontRunners: Heavily Armed

Cool as the AAS Gabriel/DaVinciAudio Labs Turntable (www.da-vinci-audio.com) looks, its design also serves a practical purpose: The $100,000 music machine features an arm for each of four tonal varieties, letting you play jazz, pop, rock, and classical albums one after another without having to switch the needle cartridge. DaVinciAudio Labs also outfitted its AAS Gabriel with an external belt-drive motor and a magnetically suspended platter that diminish vibrations. Swiss watchmakers fit ruby bearings onto each of the arms for additional stability, which is supplemented by the AAS Gabriel’s 330-pound weight.
