Your home movies can now appear as sharp as the action on HDNet, the network that broadcasts only in high definition (1080i). JVC’s GR-HD1 (800.526. 5308, www.jvc.com) is the first consumer video camcorder with which you can record, edit, play, and store widescreen home movies in high definition. The GR-HD1 ($3,500) records in high def at 720p on a standard, 60-minute Mini DV cassette. The images are saved as MPEG2 files on a Secure Digital Memory Card, enabling you to edit home movies on a PC. When the final cut is ready, simply transfer it onto one of the two formats capable of storing HD content: DVD and D-VHS tape. Although you can view your masterpiece on most TVs, an HDTV is necessary to display the stunning, lifelike quality of the picture. Now this is home theater.
