Versatility and functionality define the new Simaudio Moon 780D DAC with network player ($15,000), the latest addition to the Canadian company’s Moon Evolution Series. The unit has network connections that allow it to play both streaming and Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC) roles in a home system without degrading the sound quality.
Surprisingly, the 780D employs a dual-mono, fully balanced schematic, something not often seen in DAC topologies. In addition, the power supply utilizes state-of-the-art circuitry yet is also modular, allowing it to be upgraded as new technologies are introduced. As it is, the 780D can decode nearly every digital audio format, including the recent audiophile favorite, Direct Stream Digital (DSD).
It also includes the Moon intelligent Network Device (MiND) network player, which allows for DSD streaming over a home network and access to audiophile music-streaming services. The device comes in sleek, aircraft-aluminum-machined, black-and-silver styling with a glowing red front panel. (simaudio.com)
