Watchmaker Tag Heuer Releases Its Latest Smartphone

Swiss watchmaker Tag Heuer has created a more rugged version of its smartphone, which debuts in stores this month. The 152-year-old brand, known for its partnership with Formula 1 and its race-inspired chronographs, has appropriately named the new phone the Racer. Boasting titanium components and carbon fiber faceplates, the sleek all-black design comes with either orange racing stripes or exposed silver accents. A surgical-grade stainless steel frame and a shockproof rubber chassis ensure that the phone is both strong and lightweight. Like its less sporty sibling—the Link, on which the new phone is based—the Racer utilizes a 1.0 GHz processor and a 3.5-inch high-resolution touchscreen display. In addition to the 5-megapixel autofocus camera that it inherits from its predecessor, the Racer also offers a VGA front-facing camera for seamless video calls. Other new features include the latest Android software, a larger keyboard, and an option for the phone’s clock to resemble one of Tag Heuer’s iconic timepieces—choices include the Monaco V4 Titanium and the Carrera Mikrograph.
