Modernist Cuisine Partners with Artspace.com

NEW YORK, NY / BELLEVUE, WA—Modernist Cuisine has announced a partnership with Artspace.com, the leading online marketplace for contemporary art. The online platform will provide art lovers throughout the world with the opportunity to purchase a series of four, limited edition 17-by-12-inch photographs by Nathan Myhrvold and the Modernist Cuisine photographers.

Artspace.com was founded in 2011 with a mission to bring more art into people’s lives while helping artists and the institutions that support them reach broader audiences. Artspace partners with the most prestigious galleries and institutions worldwide to offer collectors and aspiring collectors the opportunity to discover, learn about, and buy art curated from the most important artists across the globe.

“Artspace is looking forward to carrying Modernist Cuisine prints. Over the years, food has been represented in art in many mediums and Nathan Myhrvold’s innovation and creativity have taken the art of cooking and food photography to a whole different level” says Emmanuele Vinciguerra, Chief Operating Officer at Artspace. “His striking and unique images turn ordinary food into an extraordinary work of visual art”.

In 2011 Nathan Myhrvold and his team shook the culinary world when he self-published Modernist Cuisine: The Art and Science of Cooking (The Cooking Lab). The six-volume culinary tome featured stunning photos, showing food from a new perspective. Myhrvold, a photographer since childhood, made photography a priority when creating the book. “The idea was simple—gorgeous and intriguing photos would lure people into the book,” Myhrvold explained.

Modernist Cuisine and its following book, Modernist Cuisine at Home (The Cooking Lab, 2012), each included four 8-by-10-inch prints that were popular with readers. Nathan noted, “We have received requests for both larger and different prints from what was included in our books for quite some time. Partnering with Artspace.com was an easy decision as they are a renowned website for buying art prints.”

The limited-edition series of prints feature some of the most iconic Modernist Cuisine photos: The Hidden Garden, Levitating Hamburger, Cabbage Close-up, and Steaming Broccoli Cutaway. All of the photos can also be found in The Photography of Modernist Cuisine (Nathan Myhrvold, The Cooking Lab, 2013).

The new full-bleed photos are printed on high-quality matte paper and are available at http://www.artspace.com/modernist-cuisine-nathan-myhrvold for $150 each. They are each a limited edition of 1,000 prints. Artspace.com intends to add additional Modernist Cuisine prints to its portfolio over time.
