As the art market booms—and fairs like Art Basel Miami Beach become defining events for cities—top hotels are developing exclusive experiences that center on fine art. At the forefront of the trend is the Faena Hotel Miami Beach, which will open next spring with a design by film director Baz Luhrmann and costume designer Catherine Martin, a new arts center by architect Rem Koolhaas and OMA, and an artist-in-residence program. In the meantime, hotels from London to Bali are transcending clichéd ideas of hotel art, or even art as interior design, by offering guests a chance to experience extraordinary private collections, privately tour the world’s great museums, or even sleep inside a massive sculpture.
