FrontRunners: Envy of the Greens

For most amateur golfers, putter customization used to involve only the minute adjustments that some manufacturers make to the length and lie of their off-the-shelf models. However, London-based newcomer James Ingles Putters (www.jamesinglesputters.com), named for the company’s owner, now offers made-to-measure models and even allows golfers to design their own sticks. The putters are made in part by metalworkers and craftspeople from Charles Hellis & Sons, an English gunsmithy owned by Ingles’ father. Other British-based workshops contribute to the manufacturing process, enabling the company to produce putters in any shape, size, spec, or finish, and with myriad ornamentation.
