Typically, a perfect cup of coffee requires fussing with pour-over devices that look more like lab equipment than high-end kitchen gear. No wonder coffee circles are buzzing with anticipation over the new Ratio Eight ($480, www.ratiocoffee.com). Envisioned by Mark Hellweg of Clive Coffee in Portland, Ore., the Ratio, which offers precision brewing and a sleek design, makes up to 40 ounces of excellent coffee at the push of a button. A regulated bloom cycle softly saturates the grounds, and a showerhead spout delivers water evenly with rock-steady temperature control. The beautifully balanced Chemex-style carafe is made of blown borosilicate glass and pours with the elegance of a wine decanter. This machine is designed to infuse pleasure into every drop.
