The Acura NSX GT3 was put through its paces in public for the first time while at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, on July 28 and 29. With development driver Peter Kox behind the wheel, the racecar roared through practice laps on the 2.25-mile circuit (and its 13 turns) as a prelude to the weekend’s Pirelli World Challenge that featured a pair of the marque’s TLX GTs.
Covered in carbon fiber, the NSX GT3 throws down with a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged DOHC V-6 engine punching out 500 hp and 406 ft lbs of torque. Hoping to have homologation handled by fall (under specifications set by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile for the GT3 class), Acura and the team at RealTime Racing plan to enter the collaborative contender in the 2017 North American GT series.
Already a track heavyweight, Acura’s victory count last month alone included a production-class NSX win at Pikes Peak and the top two finishes at Road America by dual TLX GTs. And with the new NSX GT3, there is every reason to expect that the competition will continue to be pummeled. (acura.com)
