The carbon-fiber dream machine will be powered by a naturally aspirated V-12 engine…

  • The AM-RB 001 will have a carbon-fiber body and carry a naturally aspirated V-12 engine.

  • The car will have a power-to-weight ratio of 1 hp per 2.2 pounds.

  • A production run from 99 to 150 examples are planned with 25 devoted to track racing.

  • First deliveries are expected in 2018.

This morning, Aston Martin and Formula 1 team Red Bull Racing have sharpened up details on their cutting-edge collaboration, the AM-RB 001 hybrid hypercar and given the public a highly anticipated peak under the hood. The lightweight leviathan will carry a naturally aspirated V-12 engine that, when paired with what is being described as a “clean-sheet” approach to the transmission (designed by Red Bull Advanced Technologies) and the car’s carbon-fiber construction, will provide a power-to-weight ratio of 1 hp to 2.2 pounds.

Tasked with taking on the premier project are the winning trifecta of Marek Reichman (Aston Martin’s chief creative officer), David King (Aston Martin’s chief special operations officer), and Adrian Newey (Red Bull Racing’s chief technical officer and Formula 1 designer). The level of performance envisioned demands a design approach that will incorporate state-of-the-art aerodynamics and structural innovations that will deliver unparalleled downforce.

The titan two-seater will be built by King and his team at the marque’s same facility that made its famed One-77 supercar in 2009. Current plans call for a production run of from 99 to 150 examples, the majority road-ready while 25 will be reserved for track use only. First deliveries of the AM-RB 001 are expected in 2018.
