The Honda VTX1800 earns a nod of approval for its grandiose custom cruiser styling and for the way that it captures the essence of a definitively American genre of motorcycle. Like its big brother, the Rune, the VTX1800 (available in five styles with prices starting at about $13,200) effortlessly asserts itself, thanks to its 1,795 cc V-twin. The engine, containing the largest pistons of any Honda motorcycle or car, produces mammoth torque, peak­ing at a mere 3,500 rpm and pulling the bike’s considerable heft with ease. A revised version of Honda’s Linked Braking System coordinates a pair of three-piston front calipers and a large, two-piston, 316 mm rear disc to produce efficient stops. Bold, cool, and supremely smooth, the VTX1800 blends sophisticated technology with old-fashioned road presence.
