A list of the top new coupes and GTs is a proper place for the Jaguar F-Type R Coupe (www.jaguar.com), but the automobile would fit just as well among the year’s best new sports cars. Indeed, Jaguar calls it a sports car, and the F-Type R Coupe’s performance and engineering are consistent with that classification. It is the company’s most powerful and most rigid series production car ever, and it has posted the fastest lap time on the Nürburgring Nordschleife of any production Jaguar. Its supercharged 5-liter V-8 generates 550 hp and 502 ft lbs of torque and enables a zero-to-60-mph time of 4 seconds and a top speed of 186 mph. Regardless of how it is classified, the F-Type R Coupe, which has a starting price of about $100,000 (Jaguar also offers less expensive 340 hp and 380 hp variants), is one of the year’s best-looking new cars. A highlight is the sloping rear window that evokes the back end of the last model that Jaguar billed as a sports car, the classic E-Type coupe of the 1960s and ’70s.
