FrontRunners: A Chief Fit for Kings

The limited-edition 2013 Indian Chief Vintage Final Edition (www.indianmotorcycle.com) is intended to mark the end of the Kings Mountain, N.C., era of the Indian brand—though that era actually ended two years ago. Indian bikes have been produced at various times and by different companies since 1901. In 2011, Polaris Industries acquired the Kings Mountain company that was building Indians and quickly moved the assembly line to Iowa. The new bike is priced at about $38,000 and powered by Indian’s 105 cu in V-twin engine. It features styling and a paint scheme based on those of the Indian Chief displayed at the 1939 New York World’s Fair.
