With a claimed top speed of 261 mph, a horsepower figure of 1,500, and a price of about $2.64 million, the recently unveiled Bugatti Chiron (bugatti.com) is billed as the fastest and most powerful production car ever. According to Bugatti, the Chiron’s zero-to-62-mph time is less than 2.5 seconds. The car is powered by an 8-liter W-16 engine with four turbochargers, which operate in a newly developed two-stage process to mitigate turbo lag. Two of the turbochargers kick in immediately; the other two are activated at about 3,800 rpm. The Chiron is also the first Bugatti with an adaptive chassis. Its five settings enhance the car’s agility and the occupants’ comfort. Bugatti plans to build only 500 examples of the Chiron and begin delivering them in the fall.
