Audi wants to take the stress out of driving in heavy traffic with its new Fit Driver project. Currently being developed in collaboration with Berlin-based Flying Health Incubator—a center that supports innovative healthcare startups—the project is focused on tailoring the driving experience to the driver’s current physical condition. With Fit Driver, a wristband or smartwatch will monitor factors like the driver’s heart rate or skin temperature while sensors in the car monitor conditions like driving style, weather, and traffic. Fit Driver uses this information to figure out how stressed or fatigued the driver is and automatically adjusts settings in the car like climate control, interior lighting, and seat massage to relax or revitalize the driver. At appropriate intervals, the system also recommends breaks and breathing exercises, which were specially designed with inspiration from performance sports and medicine. The technology will eventually incorporate driver assistance and safety systems to help protect the driver’s wellbeing even more. (audiusa.com)
