1953 Jaguar C-Type Works Lightweight
RM Sotheby’s sold a 1953 Jaguar C-Type Works Lightweight racer for $13.2 million. In general, C-Types were known for their cornering agility, low weight, and disc brakes; but this example, the second of only three Works Lightweight models, finished fourth overall in the 1953 24 Hours of Le Mans. One of the rarest racing Jaguars and one of the last C-Types built, it uses a 220 hp, 3,442 cc inline 6-cylinder engine mated to a 4-speed, fully synchronized manual transmission. After Le Mans, the Jaguar was sold to the Ecurie Ecosse racing team, where it was driven by Jimmy Stewart (Jackie Stewart’s older brother) and Roy Salvadori. (rmsothebys.com)
