The son of an affluent family in Cincinnati, Briggs Cunningham was a racer determined to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans with an American car. Though he never achieved that goal, he designed and raced several models, including the Cunningham C-1 and C-4R. This 1951 Cunningham C-2 Roadster, now owned by T.G. Mittler of Santa Fe, N.Mex., was the victor of the “Class P: Postwar Cunninghams” category. One of only three built, this C-2 is powered by a Chrysler Hemi, 5.4-liter V-8 engine.
