When Porsche unveiled its limited-edition 918 Spyder in 2015, serious automotive enthusiasts, collectors, and all those with a penchant for speed took notice. Capable of churning out 887 horsepower and 944 ft lbs of torque, Porsche’s 918 Spyder has the ability to reach speeds as fast as 214 mph and can sprint from zero to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds. As one of the most advanced supercars ever built, it earned Robb Report’s Car of the Year honors within the same 12 months that the Porsche premiered.
Although only 918 examples were built, far fewer—a reported 230 cars—were outfitted with the Weissach package, an optional configuration that reduced the vehicle’s weight by about 100 pounds thanks to magnesium alloy center-lock wheels, light-weight Alcantara interior trim, and other features.
As part of its ICONS auction, RM Sotheby’s will offer a 918 ‘Weissach’ Spyder that also features Porsche’s iconic Martini livery and the factory-applied Matte Black wrap. “A lot of it comes down to personal taste,” says Kelleher. “The person who’s going to drive this [will do so] because it has the Martini livery and the Weissach package.”
Based on pre-sale estimates, this 918 Spyder could sell for almost $2 million.
