Azimut Leonardo 100

In recent years, several shipyards have set out to produce boats that combine the performance and style of a sport cruiser with the roominess of a flybridge yacht. No company has united these features as effectively as Italian builder Azimut Yachts, which last October debuted the finest example yet of this hybrid design: the Azimut Leonardo 100.

Introduced to help commemorate Azimut’s 40th anniversary, the 100-foot Leonardo can cruise at 29 knots while passengers relax in living spaces akin to those of a chic seaside pied-à-terre. “We see the Leonardo for owners who enjoy the yachting lifestyle, but who also relish social occasions,” says Azimut CEO Federico Martini. “They are also fans of modern design, which is what we gave them with the interior.”

The exterior styling and interior layout are the work of Azimut’s longtime designer Stefano Righini, who intended the flybridge as the yacht’s primary outdoor gathering point. The space accommodates a hot tub and chaise lounges aft, and cushioned seating, a small dining table, and a secondary helm station forward, where a tinted-glass hardtop offers shade. Guests seeking direct sunlight will find it on the main deck at the bow, where recessed sun beds afford a secluded space for lounging while tables that lift hydraulically provide a casual spot for alfresco dining.

Azimut designed the Leonardo’s salon with zebrawood joinery, ivory- and cream-colored furnishings, and teak floors to evoke the ambience of an oceanfront vacation home. A semicircular bank of windows at the rear of the salon furthers this effect by opening the space to the aft deck. This sense of openness continues in the lower-deck staterooms, which feature large windows and a minimalist design scheme.

The Leonardo 100’s four staterooms can accommodate as many as eight guests comfortably, an impressive feat for a vessel that appears from the outside to be a svelte sport cruiser—and offers the performance to match. The successfully employed design of the boat, which starts at about $10.5 million, puts this Azimut at the top of an emerging class of yachts.
