Best of the Best 2012: Custom Megayachts: Rossi Navi Numptia

Rossi Navi is not as well known as many of its yacht-building counterparts in Europe. But with the delivery of Numptia last July, the 30-year-old Italian yard emerged as an industry leader. The 230-foot yacht, Rossi Navi’s largest to date, is a towering testament to the yard’s prowess in building boats that are beautiful both inside and out.

With its five decks, deep-blue hull, white superstructure, and curvilinear exterior lines, Numptia turns heads in any port. Clad in teak, the top four decks offer extensive seating and lounging areas aft, while an open forward space on the top deck doubles as a touch-and-go helipad. The top deck also features a 1,850-gallon hot tub with raised waterspouts, a covered bar and seating area, celestial LED ceiling lights, and enough room to accommodate a four-piece band during parties.

When the party moves inside, Numptia is at its finest. Italian designer Achille Salvagni—who worked almost daily with the yacht’s owner during the three-year build process—created an interior that is conducive to both formal and casual occasions. The many highlights include a winding set of limestone stairs encircling a black-glass elevator that transports guests to the four lower decks; a massive limestone mural beside a 14-seat main dining table; an entertainment lounge with a 103-inch 3-D television; and an owner’s suite that features silk carpets handmade in Tibet plus a master bath with a tub carved from a single piece of Italian marble.

Numptia’s fourth-deck interior is dedicated to wellness, offering a fully equipped gym, a steam room, a sauna, a massage room, and a beauty parlor. For fun on the water, the yacht’s gigantic tender garage—which deploys its fleet via twin water-level gullwing doors—houses two 20-plus-foot tenders, a pair of WaveRunners, Sea-Doo personal diving watercraft, kayaks, numerous towables, and an inflatable floating pool.

Numptia accommodates as many as 14 guests, who are served by a crew of 18. The yacht is available for charter in the Caribbean and Mediterranean, with rates beginning at about $700,000 per week.
