Triton Submarines LLC, America’s leading builder of personal submersibles designed for yacht deployment, provided details of its new Triton 1650/3 LP (Low Profile) submersible model at a press conference at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show today. This lightweight, low-profile version of Triton’s most popular acrylic personal submersible model is designed and engineered to take a pilot and two passengers to depths of 1,650 feet (500 meters) in air-conditioned comfort – and to fit in a standard Superyacht tender garage.
With a height of 5.9 feet (1.8 meters) and a crane weight of only 8,818 pounds (4,000 kilograms), the Triton 1650/3 LP easily can be stored, deployed and retrieved from a tender bay that is equipped with an overhead davit rated for typical tender launch and retrieval. What’s more, this new submersible model features Triton’s signature main ballast tanks, which allow pilot and passengers to board the vessel from the yacht’s swim platform or tender rather than requiring them to “ride” inside the submersible during the launch and recovery process.
“The Triton 1650/3 LP is the natural evolution of our personal submersible line for the superyacht industry,” said Triton Submarines CEO L. Bruce Jones. “We engineered it to allow a pilot and two guests to explore the ocean depths in an air-conditioned safe, one-atmosphere environment, while sparing the owner the expense of retrofitting his yacht with a special A-frame davit or running a separate support vessel.”
Featuring the same array of electronic systems as Triton Submarine’s popular Triton 3300/3 model, the new Triton 1650/3 LP has a lighter acrylic pressure hull mounted in a partial steel enclosure. The submersible provides its passengers with tremendous visibility and comes standard with five powerful external LED lights.
The first Triton 1650/3 LP is currently under construction at the builder’s facility in Vero Beach, Fla., and is scheduled to be delivered in September 2016.
