Rolls-Royce Announces Remotely Operated Boats

The innovative British manufacturer is set to debut unmanned cargo ships as early as 2020…

The futuristic technology found in science-fiction novels is becoming an inevitable reality, and with the newly announced Rolls-Royce autonomous ships, the British manufacturer is shaping the future of sea travel. Control centers on land will be manned by a small crew of seven to 14 people with the technology to control a fleet of vessels across the world through interactive smart screens, voice-recognition systems, holograms, and surveillance drones that monitor what happens both on board and around the ship. By using autonomous vessels, Rolls-Royce hopes to increase cargo safety and ensure its arrival to the final destination. Rolls-Royce plans to debut the self-driving ships by 2020. (rolls-royce.com)
