The Dasher, launched earlier this year, was designed from the hull up around the electric drive propulsion system. Hinckley gave the boat a carbon-fiber hull to keep it feather-light and even painted the artisanal teak throughout the cockpit to give it an authentic, high-end look without adding the weight of extra wood. There’s also no fuel tank on the Dasher, so weight distribution is consistent throughout the ride. The 28-footer is powered by twin 80 hp Torqeedo electric motors with two BMW i3 lithium-ion batteries. Its 50 amp cables recharge the boat twice as fast as most electric cars. It has a fast cruising speed of 27 mph, and at 10 mph it has a range of 40 miles. The Dasher’s down-east profile and open layout make it a stylish, futuristic day boat.
