This year’s Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG Roadster (www.mbusa.com) has the power and performance capabilities to back up the bolder look that came with last year’s redesign of the SL line. The car, which has a base price of about $146,000, is powered by a twin-turbo, 5.5-liter V-8 that pumps out 530 hp and enables a zero-to-60-mph acceleration time of 4.2 seconds. With a body and major chassis components made of aluminum, the SL63 is more than 328 pounds lighter than its predecessor. The engine is mated to a 7-speed, single-clutch automatic transmission that provides quick, positive shifts. In addition to launch control, the transmission also features a default Controlled Efficiency mode, Sport and Sport+ modes, and a manual-shift mode.
