The fifth AMG model to receive the Black Series treatment, the 2014 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series (www.mbusa.com) features GT3 racecar-influenced performance enhancements. These include aerodynamic refinements for high-speed stability, and they have resulted in a fearsome power-to-weight ratio of 5.5 pounds per unit of horsepower; that is the highest-ever ratio for a Mercedes-Benz road car. The car’s 6.3-liter V-8 produces 622 hp—a 39 hp boost over the standard SLS AMG’s power output—and its suspension and chassis alterations enable it to grip the road more tenaciously than its stock sibling can. It is expected that only about 100 examples of the SLS AMG Black Series will be sold in the United States. The estimated price for the car is $280,000.
